Rodrigo - Creative Director

Olá!

Hello, I'm Rodrigo Ribeiro, a Creative Director, also known by Guaxupé - a nickname a little hard to pronounce. I am based in NYC and after working in big and traditional agencies both in the US and Sao Paulo, I decided to try my hand on the client side, at Sol de Janeiro’s in-house, a $650MM American beauty brand inspired by the Brazilian culture.

In this role, I craft and oversee full funnel content, from digital initiatives to global campaigns. The learnings and opportunities have been incredible, allowing me to offer insights to the company dynamics while experiencing the client side. Here, I am dedicated to elevatingl ideas by staying ahead of trends and leading a very talented team of creatives. And now I know the difference between serums, exfoliants, and face masks. My role integrates creativity, strategic thinking, art direction, and leadership to contribute to the brand's success — aspects often not fully explored in a traditional agency setting.

Before joining Sol de Janeiro, I held the same position at Havas NYC and served as a Senior Art Director at R/GA NYC from 2016 to 2018. But my journey began way before that, in São Paulo. During my 17-year career, my beard turned gray and I had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of global clients: Google, Samsung, Mercedes-Benz, Procter and Gamble, Colgate, Keurig, and others. My work has earned me international, as well as invitations to judge several advertising festivals - something that has made my parents proud back in my charming hometown in Brazil.

I'm addicted to soccer. We could talk about it the whole day, especially if you're not German. I'm also passionate about cinema - I found time to watch and rate more than 1,000 movies. (Yes, I think Home Alone is one of the best films ever). I met my wife in NYC at a Carnival party dressed like Elsa, she fell in love with me (obviously) and now we have a tiny little baby called Luca.
